Tree Kangaroo conservation in Papua New Guinea
Article Abstract:
The Tree Kangaroo Conservation Project in Papua New Guinea (PNG) was conducted to examine the wild status of tree kangaroos (Dendrolagus species) in the country. The project integrates the research efforts of scientists, students and other researchers in PNG. In addition, researchers aimed to increase conservation education, particularly about the natural history of tree kangaroos and the cooperation of landowners and government in wildlife conservation. Researchers hoped that information on tree kangaroos will help landowners formulate sustainable development practices.

Placing a bet on the desert tortoise
Article Abstract:
A 30-year habitat conservation plan (HCP) in Clark County, NE, has been approved by the Fish and Wildlife Service. Under the scheme, Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and Mesquite are allowed to take desert tortoises incidental to legal development activities. The Nevada Dept. of Transportation is also given a permit under the HCP to take tortoises for three decades. In exchange, these recipients of the permit are required to reduce, monitor and control the impact of taking and the related tortoise habitat loss.
