Tripping the light fantastic
Article Abstract:
Ni and colleagues have provided data on the interaction between phytochrome B and phytochrome-interacting factor-3 (PIF3), and speculate that there is a short cut mechanism linking phytochrome photo-conversion to gene regulation. Franhauser and colleagues previously showed that PKS1 binds to and is phosphorylated by PrA and PfrA, and proposed that binding to PKS1 could be important for retaining phytochrome A in the cytoplasm.

Proximity signal and shade avoidance differences between early and late successional trees
Article Abstract:
The morphology and size of leaves, and their distribution with regard to height in the canopy, are extremely important in competition between plants for living space. It has been found that early successional species produce small proximity signals but react strongly to them, while late successional species react less strongly but produce strong signals.

Phytochromes and light signal perception by plants - an emerging synthesis
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the ability of plants to sense fluctuations in light through phytochromes. The significance of phytochromes in evolutionary biology and their molecular mechanisms are discussed.
