Survival of female wood ducks during brood rearing in Alabama and Mississippi
Article Abstract:
Research is presented on wood duck population numbers in different wetland habitats in Alabama, 1998 to 1999, and Mississippi, 1996 to 1999. Results show that total wood duck numbers are less affected by female survival during brood rearing than by other factors, such as duckling survival.

True metabolizable energy for wood ducks from acorns compared to other waterfowl foods
Article Abstract:
Research on wood duck nutrition shows that moist-soil and bottomland-hardwood habitats are capable of producing higher amounts of dietary-based energy and a greater diversity of nutrients and forage foods than are croplands. Duck preferences for acorns from a variety of tree species, including willow oak and cherrybark oak, are examined.

Survival of Wood Duck ducklings and broods in Mississippi and Alabama
Article Abstract:
The survival of Wood Duck ducklings and broods in wetlands of Alabama and Mississippi is estimated and the predictors of duckling survival, including duckling mass, brood size, inter-day travel distance, site and habitat use, are evaluated. Ducklings in broods using habitats isolated from wetlands containing collections of nest boxes had greater survival rates than those in wetlands with nest boxes.
