Article Abstract:
Turtles and tortoises are fast disappearing from the Asian continent, as most of them are sold in markets for food and for ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine. The Swiss-based World Conservation Union's (IUCN) Turtle Survival Alliance has established dozens of breeding centers across the US and Europe to save the rarest species like Pelodiscus sinensis and many others.

Efforts to save Bolson tortoises from extinction, such as the protection of their habitat and implementation of a breeding program, are presented. Their natural history, as well as their characteristics and behavior, are also discussed.
