Variability of the path of the Kuroshio ocean current over the past 25,000 years
Article Abstract:
The current velocity and volume transport of the Kuroshio current, the strong northwestern element of the subtropical North Pacific Ocean gyre, are key factors in determining its flow pattern off central Japan. They are closely connected with the intensity of the North Equatorial Current, which is itself influenced by trade-wind strength in the eastern equatorial North Pacific. It is possible that millennium-scale variations in the flow pattern of the Kuroshio are prompted by changes in the intensity of trade winds connected with the subtropic North Pacific high-pressure.

Host recognition by the tobacco hornworm is mediated by a host plant compound
Article Abstract:
Research exploring inductions of host plant specificity is presented, with focus in exploring patterns of induced feeding preferences of the tobacco worm. It is emphasized that the taste receptors of larvae feeding on host plants are tuned to indioside D.
