Vision in the eternal present
Article Abstract:
It appears that, for certain tasks, the visual system takes no account of and has no memory of previous visual states, even though this could be beneficial. This could be because assumptions based on memories of a changing world could be misleading. Furthermore, there is a computational cost associated with constructing and maintaining memories of previous visual states. The amnesic approach, where no memory is retained, may be sufficient for some tasks.

Article Abstract:
Very little is known about the complex process of visual perception. Scientists believe human beings use a combination of extraretinal information and other visual data to determine direction and distance in saccadic eye movements. Extensive research is required to glean further knowledge on the subject. A schematic diagram shows the hypothetical combination of extraretinal and retinal information to determine visual direction.

Perceived geometrical relationships affected by eye-movement signals
Article Abstract:
Scientists have observed continual sensory input from eye position changes just before a saccade eye movement provides enough information for the brain to perceive the position of three dots in a vernier alignment test. Extra-retinal stimuli are only involved in the definition of object locations in relation to the eye. Vernier curve shift analysis helped establish this conclusion.
