Weekly cycles of air pollutants, precipitation and tropical cyclones in the coastal NW Atlantic region
Article Abstract:
There are weekly cycles in regional-scale coastal Atlantic data for tropical cyclones, lower-troposphere pollution and precipitation. Ozone and carbon monoxide concentrations are much lower at the beginning of the week than at the end of the week, while near-coastal ocean areas see much more precipitation at weekends than on weekdays. It is possible that extensive regional pollution advection into the Atlantic leads to climate modification through heavy aerosol loading producing thermal responses in storm intensity and precipitation development.

Observational evidence for an ocean heat pump induced by tropical cyclones
Article Abstract:
The effect of tropical cyclones on surface ocean temperatures is calculated by comparing surface temperatures before and after storm passage and they are used to calculate the vertical mixing induced by tropical cyclone activity. The analyses have shown that the cooling and vertical mixing of the surface ocean is strongly related to sea surface temperature, indicating that future changes in tropical sea surface temperatures might affect ocean circulation and ocean heat transport that are not accounted for in climate models.
