When good drugs go bad
Article Abstract:
An international group of scientists suggest a need for a global research network to identify genetically at-risk populations to reduce the risk of serious adverse drug reactions (SADRs). The establishment of a global SADR pharmacogenomics network would certainly not be cheap but would provide opportunity to alert and educate clinicians and the public about the problem of SADRs.

New spin on the Hall effect
Article Abstract:
The phenomenon of spin Hall effect that involves electrons with opposite spins going their separate ways in an electric field is crucial to spin-based electronics. Scientists report a breakthrough in spin control, with the first detection by electrical means of the 'spin Hall effect.'

Magnetic monopoles in spin ice
Article Abstract:
The emergence of the magnetic monopoles in a class of exotic magnets called as spin ice is discussed. The monopoles are found to be formed as a result of the dipole moment of the underlying electronic degrees of freedom of the substances.
