Wildlife caught in crossfire of US immigration battle
Article Abstract:
The US-Mexico border, one of the longest policed borders in the world, is a conservation priority, as its rich biodiversity which allows hosting many plant species and vulnerable animals including the pronghron antelope, and species of bat, owl and jaguar, is being threatened by a declining water supply in the region. Conservation biologists believe that the squeezing of migrants into the desert due to the tougher border enforcement at major crossings has aggravated the threat by making life dangerous for local wildlife and the biologists studying it.
