A cold-sensitive Listeria monocytogenes mutant has a transposon insertion in a gene encoding a putative membrane protein and shows altered (p)ppGpp levels
Article Abstract:
A cold-sensitive Listeria monocytogenes mutant intended cld-14 was obtained by transposon Tn917 mutagenesis and the gene interrupted by Tn917 in cld-14 was the Listeria monocytogenes LMOf2365_1485 homolog that exhibits 45.7% homology to the Bacillus subtilis yqfF locus. PgpH designated as LMOf2365_1485 might play a critical role due to its predicted membrane location in sensing the environmental temperature and altering cellular (p)ppGpp levels to allow the organism to adapt to low temperatures.

Critical role of anteiso-C15:0 fatty acid in the growth of Listeria monocytogenes at low temperatures
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the influence of anteiso-C15:0 fatty acid in the low temperature development of the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. Analysis of fatty acid composition show adaptation modes involving fatty acid chain length shortening and branching modification. Results also indicate that anteiso-C15:0 affects membrane lipids' fluid, liquid crystalline state.

The htrA(degP) gene of Listeria monocytogenes 10403S is essential for optimal growth under stress conditions
Article Abstract:
Listeria monocytogenes 10403S mutant, which is unable to grow in high salt concentrations, was tested for its response towards high temperatures, heat shock and H(sub 2)O(sub 2) stresses. The study shows the importance of htrA(degP) gene of Listeria monocytes 10403S mutant for the optimal growth under osmotic stress conditions.
