The amnesiac gene product is expressed in two neurons in the Drosophila brain that are critical for memory
Article Abstract:
Research reveals that the amnesiac gene product AMN in Drosophila is expressed in two large neurons distributed among the mushroom bodies of the brain. Data suggest that the protein functions in a modulatory fashion and neuropeptide release onto the mushroom bodies from the protein leads to memory retention.

Drosophila DPM neurons form a delayed and branch-specific memory trace after olfactory classical conditioning
Article Abstract:
Memory traces include any molecular, biophysical or cellular change induced by learning that subsequently alter the processing and response of the nervous system while formation of normal olfactory memory requires the expression of the wild-type amnesiac gene in the dorsal paired medial neurons. Classical conditioning that includes olfactory learning leads to learned avoidance behaviour of the conditioned stimulus.

A pdf neuropeptide gene mutation and ablation of PDF neurons each cause severe abnormalities of behavioural circadian rhythms in Drosophila
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to delineate functional roles of the pigment-dispersing factor (PDF) and lateral neurons (LNs) in the operation of the circadian pacemaker system in Drsophila. Results demonstrate that LNs are principal circadian pacemakers influencing locomoror rhythms and PDFs are the principal circadian transmitters.
