Actin cortical cytoskeleton and cell wall synthesis in regenerating protoplasts of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae actin mutant DBY 1693
Article Abstract:
Actin mutants have a double error in their actin cytoskeleton because of the mutation in the actin gene and the formation of protoplasts. The cytoskeleton does not contain actin cables disrupting cell polarity, transport of secretory vesicles to the bud and budding. The redistribution of actin patches on the protoplast surface is not affected by the mutation but the continued persistent of actin patches on the surface of the mother cells and the protoplasts is due to the mutation. The plasma membrane of the mutants and the protoplasts contain finger-like invaginations.

S layer regeneration in Methanococcus voltae protoplasts
Article Abstract:
Electron microscopical study of the regeneration of the paracrystalline proteinaceous cell (S layer) of the methanogen Methanococcus voltae find that the ultrastructural changes, such as the recurrence of the intramembrane particles of the plasma membrane, occur in the cell envelope during S layer regeneration. The regeneration response of the cell to the changes made at the cell surface indicates the influence of a feedback mechanism in the synthesis of the S layer and associated envelope components.

The aberrant positioning of nuclei and the microtubular cytoskeleton in Saccharomyces cerevisiae due to improper actin function
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to identify multinuclear budding cells, nuclei positioning and random mitosis orientation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae actin mutants using fluorescence and electron microscopy. Results showed that actin cortical patches in cells with nuclear defects exhibited normal asymmetric distribution. In addition, wild-type and actin mutant cells exhibited differences with regard to actin cables.
