Analysis of lignin-polysaccharide complexes formed during grass lignin degradation by cultures of Pleurotus species
Article Abstract:
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy indicate that degradation of wheat straw and lignin by different species of Pleurotus produces a material containing exopolysaccharide and an aromatic fraction. The polysaccharides produced by the fungi are made up mainly of D-glucose and small amounts of D-mannose and D-galactose. Acid hydrolysis and methylation analysis reveal that the polysaccharide has a glucan formed by (1 to 3)-linkage of glucopyranosyl residues branched at C-6 after every 2 or 3 residues. The aromatic fraction originates from lignin.

Importance of laccase in vegetative growth of Pleurotus florida
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the influence of laccase in Pleurotus florida vegetative growth. Two laccases were observed in the mycelial culture filtrate. Results reveal that low-laccase-producing mutants are incapable of yielding fruit bodies and had unhealthy myclelial growth. Results also show that Pleurotus florida L2 enzyme influences the mushroom's mycelial development.

Heterologous expression of Pleurotus eryngii peroxidase confirms its ability to oxidize Mn(sup)2+ and different aromatic substrates
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the characteristics of a heterologously expressed ligninolytic peroxidase catalytic properties. Results show that allelic variants of the enzyme from Pleurotus eryngii can be expressed in Aspergillus nidulans, without affecting its molecular mass and catalytic properties.
