Chromosomal localization of cotransformed transgenes in the hexaploid cultivated oat Avena sativa L. using fluorescence in situ hybridization
Article Abstract:
Chromosomal localization of cotransformed transgenes has been carried out in oats, Avena sativa L., using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Eight progeny were analyzed in each of two lines. Plants null, hetero- and homozygous for the two genes were found in one line. Plants null and heterozygous for the two genes were in the other line. Findings show that in the two transformation events, which are independent, the gus and bar genes had inserted in the same position relative to each other. The insertions were on D satellite (SAT) chromosomes with a C genome translocation.

Temperature response in wild oat (Avena fatua L.) generations segregating for seed dormancy
Article Abstract:
An interaction between generation and germination temperature has been observed in wild oat (Avena fatua L.), with F1, F2, and backcross populations obtained by crossing parents with high and low levels of seed dormancy. Dominance apparently changed from early germination at 15 degrees C to late germination at 20 degrees C. An inverse relationship between temperature and germination rate appeared in F1 caryopses imbibed at 10, 15, 20, and 25 degrees C. An estimated six factors segregated between dormant and nondormant parents.

Chromosome and genomic relationships between the diploid species Avena strigosa, A. eriantha and the tetraploid A. maroccana
Article Abstract:
Chromosome and genomic relationships between diploid Avena strigosa, A. eriantha and wild tetraploid A. maroccana, all oat species, are discussed. Meiotic chromosome pairing was carried out in the two diploid species, in the hybrid between them, the derived allotetraploid of the cross and the hybrid from crossing it with A. maroccana.
