Control of leaf vascular patterning by polar auxin transport
Article Abstract:
A crucial member of the AtPIN family of auxin-efflux-associated proteins, AtPIN1 is expressed prior to pre-procambial and procambial cell fate markers in domains that become restricted toward sites of procambium formation. A model is derived for self-regulated, reiterative patterning of all vein orders and postulate at its onset a common epidermal auxin-focusing mechanism for major- vein positioning and phyllotactic patterning.

Polar auxin transport and patterning: Grow with the flow
Article Abstract:
New insights are provided into how genetic and stochastic vein patterning processes might be related, but also connect the initiation of venation patterns of models of other auxin-dependent patterning processes in shoots and roots. Strong experimental support for the role of polar PIN 1 expression and auxin flow in the selection of pre-procambial cells, a characteristic feature of the canalization concept is provided.

Canalization of auxin flow by Aux/IAA-ARF-dependent feedback regulation of PIN polarity
Article Abstract:
A cellular and molecular mechanism for canalization is identified. It is suggested that the feedback regulation provides a conceptual framework for polarization during multiple regenerative and patterning processes in plants.
