Detection and discrimination of Cryptosporidium parvum and C. hominis in water samples by immunomagnetic separation-PCR
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to develop nested PCR, which specifically detects the gene derived from Cryptosporidium parvum and C. hominis and discriminates the amplified product between these species. The result suggests that detection by nested PCR depends on the confirmed oocyst number and that nested PCR in combination with immunomagnetic separation has the ability to detect a single oocyst in a water sample.

Impact of zooplankton grazing on the excystation, viability, and infectivity of the protozoan pathogens Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia Lamblia
Article Abstract:
The direct effect of a zooplankton grazer on the density, viability and infectivity of the protozoan pathogens Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia is examined. The studies have shown that zooplankton grazers have substantially decreased the population of infectious Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia in freshwater ecosystems.

New method using sedimentation and immunomagnetic separation for isolation and enumeration of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts and Giardia lamblia cysts
Article Abstract:
A new method for the identification of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts and Giardia lamblia cysts from biosolid samples is developed that utilizes sedimentation and immunomagnetic separation. The method is used to recover stained cysts and oocysts from primary settled sewage sludge, anaerobically digested sewage sludge, and bovine manure.
