Detection of type A, B, E, and F Clostridium botulinum neurotoxins in foods by using an amplified enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with digoxigenin-labeled antibodies
Article Abstract:
An amplified enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of Clostridium botulinum complex neurotoxins was evaluated for its ability to detect A, B, E, and F botulinum neurotoxins in a variety of liquid, solid and semisolid food. The test could readily detect 2ng/ml of neurotoxins type A, B, E, and F in a variety of food samples and thus appears to be an effective tool for large-scale screening of food supply in the event of a botulinum neurotoxin contamination.

Flagellin diversity in Clostridium botulinum groups I and II: A new strategy for strain identification
Article Abstract:
The diversity of flagellin structural proteins and gene sequences from a range of isolates from different geographical, clinical, and environmental origins were explored to determine the potential for using flagellin gene variable region sequences to improve genotyping of group I and group II Clostridium botulinum strains.

Use of a recombinant fluorescent substrate with cleavage sites for all botulinum neurotoxins in high-throughput screening of natural product extracts for inhibitors of serotypes A, B, and E
Article Abstract:
The design, production, and testing of a recombinant fluorescent substrate containing cleavage sites for all seven serotypes of botulinum neurotoxin (BoNTs) are described. The array is adapted to an automated system and is used for screening an array of 528 natural product extracts for inhibitors of BoNTs A, B and E.
