Determination of the viability of Aeromonas hydrophila in different types of water by flow cytometry, and comparison with classical methods
Article Abstract:
The behavior of Aeromonas hydrophila in types of water with different physical and chemical characteristics is investigated using flow cytometry and then compared with traditional methods. The results have shown that flow cytometry is a suitable method for assessing the viability of bacteria in water samples and also permits fast detection of bacteria that are in a viable but nonculturable state, which are not detectable by conventional methods.

Seasonal variations in virus-host populations in Norwegian coastal waters: Focusing on the cyanophage community infecting marine Synechococcus spp.
Article Abstract:
An investigation of the seasonal variations in the viral community in Norwegian coastal waters by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) demonstrated that the viral community was diverse, displaying dynamic seasonal variation and that viral populations of 29 different sizes were present. A focus was made on the cyanophage community infecting marine Synechococcus spp. using flow cytometry and real-time PCR.
