Development of a rapid method for simulataneous recovery of diverse mircobes in drinking water by ultrafiltration with sodium polyphosphate and surfactants
Article Abstract:
The use of hollow-fiber ultrafiltration is examined to concentrate on Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, Bacillus globigii endospores, bacteriophage MS2, echovirus 1,Cryptosporidium parvum occysts, and 4.5-(mu)m polystyrene microspheres from 10 liters of tap water. The technique was found to recover MS2, C. parvum, microspheres, and several bacterial species with mean recovery efficiencies of 70% to 93%.

Identifying host sources of fecal pollution: Diversity of Escherichia coli in confined dairy and swine production system
Article Abstract:
Repetitive extargenic palindromic PCR fingerprinting of Escherichia coli is one microbial source tracking approach for identifying the host source origin of fecal pollution in aquatic system. The diversity of Escherichia coli pollutions in manure slurry storage facilities is significant and likely is problematic with respect to library construction for microbial source tracking applications.

Multistate evaluation of an ultrafiltration-based procedure for simultaneous recovery of enteric microbes in 100-liter tap water samples
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of a hollow-fiber ultrafiltration (UF) procedure for recovering viruses, bacteria and parasites in 100-liter tap water samples is discussed. Results suggest that the hollow-fiber UF water sampling method is successful for recovering diverse waterborne microbes.
