Different strategies for molecular differentiation of Mycpbacterium bovis strains isolated in Sardinia, Italy
Article Abstract:
Different methods were used to determine the molecular differentiation of 22 Mycobacterium strains from cattle sick with bovine tuberculosis and one human isolate. IS6110 DNA fingerprinting resulted to categorizing strains into six patterns while enterobacterial repetitive consensus sequence primers differentiated the strains into seven clusters. HaeIII and PvuII polymerase chain reaction (PCR) ribotypings respectively segregated strains into five and seven patterns whereas PCR with the oligonucleotide primer produced eight clusters with the 23 evaluated strains.

Effects of bacterial prey species and their concentration on growth of the amoebae Acanthamoeba castellanii and Hartmannella vermiformis
Article Abstract:
The interaction between two amoebae and six bacterial prey at different concentrations and their effect on the growth of the amoebae Acanthamoeba castellanii and Hartmannella vermiformis are described. The results have shown that all but one bacterium resulted in a positive growth response, but the gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus was difficult to digest and the heavily pigmented bacterium Klebsiella ozaenae induced unusual amoebic behavior prior to ingestion.

Infection of Acanthamoeba castellanii with Mycokbacterium bovis and M. bovis BCG and survival of M. bovis within the amoebae
Article Abstract:
Results show that Mycobacterium bovis survives injestion by Acanthamoeba castellanii but two strains of M. bovis BCG are unable to survive within A. castellanii.
