Engineering of a xylose metabolic pathway in Corynebacterium glutamicum
Article Abstract:
A recombinant Corynebacterium glutamicum strain that is capable of efficiently and concomitantly metabolizing both glucose and xylose is constructed. In mineral medium containing a sugar mixture of 5% glucose and 2.5% xylose, oxygen-deprived strain CRX2 cells simultaneously consumed both sugars, showing the absence of diauxic phenomena relative to the new xylA-xylB construct, although glucose-mediated regulation still exerted a measurable influence on xylose consumption kinetics.

Effect of lignocellulose-derived inhibitors on growth of and ethanol production by growth-arrested Corynebacterium glutamicum R
Article Abstract:
The effects of inhibitors generated during the pretreatment of a lignocellulosic biomass on an ethanol production method are investigated by using growth-arrested Corynebacterium glutamicum strain R-ldhA-pCRA723. This method has indicated high tolerance to all organic acid, furan and phenolic inhibitors tested due to the growth-arrested conditions.

Enhanced hydrogen production from formic acid by formate hydrogen lyase-overexpressing Escherichia coli strains
Article Abstract:
A report on a process for hydrogen production that uses formate hydrogen lyase (FHL) overexpressing strains of Escherichia coli at high cell density to utilize formic acid is presented. Continuous hydrogen production is achieved by maintaining the reactor concentration of the substrate under 25 mM.
