Exposure to maternal diabetes is associated with altered fetal growth patterns: a hypotheses regarding metabolic allocation to growth under hyperglycemic-hypoxemic conditions
Article Abstract:
A comparison, involving a biweekly longitudinal ultrasound, was carried out between 37diabetic pregnant women and their fetuses and 29 nondiabetic, nonsmoking maternal/fetal pairs for studying the fetal growth patterns and the influence of clinical class and glycemic control. The study identified the changing proportions in the limbs, head and abdomen across gestation, thus indicating the developmental changes experienced by the fetus, which is growing in a hypoxic/hyperglycemic physiology.

Effects of ethnicity, gender, obesity, and age on central fat distribution: comparison of dual X-ray absorptiometry measurements in white, black, and Puerto Rican adults
Article Abstract:
Population based studies have indicated that upper-body adiposity is related to gender, age, ethnicity, and total body fatness. A study conducted on 510 men and women who were separated according to three categories of white, black, and Puerto Rican revealed that fat mass was greater for blacks and Puerto Ricans than whites.
