Extracellular DNA in single- and multiple-species unsaturated biofilms
Article Abstract:
The compositional similarity of extracellular DNA (eDNA) to cellular DNA, the relative quantity of eDNA, and the terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (TRFLP) community profile of eDNA in multiple-species biofilms is investigated. It is concluded that extracellular DNA production in unsaturated biofilms is species dependent and that the phylogenetic information contained in this DNA pool is quantifiable and distinct from either total to cellular DNA

In vitro laser ablation of natural marine biofilms
Article Abstract:
The efficiency of pulsed low-power laser irradiation of 532 nm from an Nd:YAG laser is studied to remove marine biofilm developed on titanium and glass coupons. The impact is summarized with emphasis on the bacterial and diatom components of the natural biofilms.
