GIP2, a putative transcription factor that regulates the aurofusarin biosynthetic gene cluster in Gibberella zeae
Article Abstract:
Studies were conducted to determine whether GIP2 is required for aurofusarin biosynthesis, to identify the genes in the aurofusarin biosynthetic gene cluster and determine whether overproduction or underproduction of aurofusarin affects growth and colony morphology of Gibberella zeae. It was observed that GIP2 is a putative positive regulator of the aurofusarin biosynthetic gene cluster and aurofusarin production is negatively correlated with vegetative growth by G. zeae.

Degradation of wheat straw by Fibrobacter succinogenes S85: A liquid- and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance study
Article Abstract:
The degradation and metabolism of wheat straw by Fibrobacter succinogenes cells growing on an intact complex substrate are monitored by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and chemolytic methods. This approach helped in investigating the activity of an entire fibrolytic system on an intact complex substrate and also allowed a comparative analysis of the concurrent activities of xylanases and esterases on the wheat straw.

Deletion and complementation of the mating type (MAT) locus of the wheat head blight pathogen Gibberella zeae
Article Abstract:
The entire mating type (MAT) locus was deleted and complemented for verifying its function in Gibberella zeae and for developing MAT-null non-ascospore-producing strains that could be used for evaluating the significance of ascospores in wheat head blight epidemics. The MAT-null and MAT-complemented strains can be used in developing new approaches for controlling wheat head blight.
