Gene flow in the Iberian Peninsula determined from Y-chromosome STR loci
Article Abstract:
Multiallelic short-tandom repeat (STR) loci from the recombining region of the human Y-chromosome were typed in a sample of residents in the Basque Country (RBAS) to study Y-chromosome diversity in the Iberian Peninsula and to assess the effects of migratory movements on the genetic background of the population living currently in territories traditionally occupied by native autochthonous Basques (BASQ). Admixture proportions in the gene pool of RBAS indicate a high level of hybridization with Basque and non-Basque genes, explaining the genetic differentiation between BASQ and RBAS.

Effects of consanguinity on pre-reproductive mortality: Does demographic transition matter?
Article Abstract:
A study to investigate whether there is an increase on pre-mature deaths due to genetically determined factors at the beginning of a demographic transition is conducted. The deleterious health effects associated with consanguinity are mostly caused by the expression of recessive genes inherited from common ancestors and consanguinity carries a theoretical risk of fetal abnormalities or death in early life.

Y-chromosome lineages in Sao Tome e Principe islands: Evidence of European influence
Article Abstract:
The Y-chromosome haplogroups found among Sao Tome e principe islands were analyzed for the origin and lineage. The European paternal lineage is found to influence greatly the composition of these haplogroups.
