Genes responsible for nisin synthesis, regulation and immunity form a regulon of two operons and are induced by nisin in Lactococcus lactis N8
Article Abstract:
The nisZBTCIPRKFEG regulon of Lactococcus lactis N8 consists of the nisZBTCIPRK and nisFEG operons that are required for nisin biosynthesis, regulation, and immunity. Nisin induces the transcription of its structural gene and the nisFEG operon required for immunity in nisZB antisense and nisT deletion mutants unable to produce nisin. This shows that the peptide antibiotic nisin functions as a signal molecule for transcription activation. The stimulation of nisin production increases nisI transcription and immunity in a dose-dependent manner.

Transcriptional regulation of molybdoenzyme synthesis in Escherichia coli in response to molybdenum: ModE-molybdate, a repressor of the modABCD (molybdate transport) operon is a secondary transcriptional activator for the hyc and nar operons
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that the ModE protein is a secondary transcriptional activator for the hyc and narXL operons that are activated by the transcriptional activators. Cells were determined under anaerobic environments and prepared for enzyme assays. Solutions were then made with nanopure deionized water. Results indicated that ModE-molybdate is one of two regulatory proteins regulating the expression of the hyc and nar operons based on the availability of molybdate.

Two heterocyst-specific DNA rearrangements of nif operons in Anabaena cylindrica and Nostoc sp. strain Mac
Article Abstract:
A study shows that filamentous cyanobacteria Nostoc strain Mac and A. cylindrica contain DNA elements similar to those found in nifD and fdxN operons. Rearrangement of the DNA elements occurs during the formation of heterocysts. The nifD element is present in eight of the nine strains tested. Anabaena strain CA does not contain either of these elements. The study also shows that the Anabaena strain M131 is similar to the strain PC 7120.
