Genetic diversity of algal viruses which Lyse the photosynthetic picoflagellate Micromonas pusilla (Prasinophyceae)
Article Abstract:
The genetic similarity between Micromonas pusilla viruses (MpVs) does not appear to be greater among MpVs isolated from one water source than among MpVs from geographically distant sources. DNA hybridization studies of 8 MpV clones from 5 locations revealed a highest similarity of 70%, between the SP1 and SP2 strains from the California coast, and a lowest similarity of 13%, between SP2 and the PB6 strain from NewYork estuarine water. Three groups of MpVs were identified.

Virus-specific responses of Heterosigma akashiwo to infection
Article Abstract:
Flow cytometry (FCM) is used to compare the lytic cycles of two viruses, single-stranded RNA virus and double-stranded DNA virus and the progression of cell death in Heterosigma akashiwo. It is revealed that virus is responsible for the characteristics of viral infection in algae and therefore are variable among viruses infecting the same species.

Identification and preliminary characterization of two cDNAs encoding unique carbonic anhydrases from the marine alga Emiliania huxleyi
Article Abstract:
The cloning and preliminary characterizations of two genetically distinct carbonic anhydrase cDNAs are described. These provide an important tool for resolving debates and questions on inorganic carbon metabolism and increasing understanding of biology and ecology of marine microalgae.
