Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 and oncogenic signalling
Article Abstract:
The underlying mechanism involved in the activation of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) in response to both hypoxic stress and oncogenic signals has an impact on how these processes may become deregulated in human cancer. A better understanding of this regulation may provide a basis for the development of new cancer therapies.

Physiological relevance of telomeric G-quadruplex formation: A potential drug target
Article Abstract:
The physiological relevance of G-quadruplex stabilizing agents and their potential pitfalls are discussed. The inability of telomerase to utilize a G-quadruplex folded telomeric substrate has led to the emergence of G-quadruplex stabilizing agents, which can be used as an effective strategy for controlling cancer.

Anti-cancer selection as a source of developmental and evolutionary constraints
Article Abstract:
Cancer has a negative effect on fitness and has been looked from an evolutionary perspective. Various alternative developmental links cancer may have together with their evolutionary implications is discussed with the help of inputs from Kavanagh and Leroi et al.
