Inactivation of Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores by high-pressure carbon dioxide treatment
Article Abstract:
The effects of heat, pressure and CO2 treatment on the inactivation of the spores of five bacteria, including G. stearothermophilus are compared. Findings show that CO2 treatment at temperatures below 100 degree Celsius can effectively activate bacterial spores including those of G. stearothermophilus.

Isotope labeling and microautoradiography of active heterotrophic bacteria on the basis of assimilation of (super 14)CO2
Article Abstract:
Assimilation of (super 14)CO2 by heterotrophic bacteria was used for isotope labeling of active microorganisms in pure cultures and environmental samples. The novel HetCo2-microautoradiography (MAR) approach expands the possibility for studies of the ecophysiology of uncultivated microorganisms.

Mixed-species biofilm formation by lactic acid bacteria and rice wine yeasts
Article Abstract:
The possible formation of a mixed-species biofilm by combining lactic acid bacteria and yeast is examined. Results reveal the formation of a biofilm in monoculture by the Kyokai-10b yeast strain in the presence of conditioned medium (CM) from Lactobacillus casei IFO3831.
