Mating type switching in the tetrapolar basidiomycete Agrocybe aegerita
Article Abstract:
The existence of a mating type switching mechanism analogous to that in yeast was demonstrated in the filamentous fungi Agrocybe aegerita. This mechanism was demonstrated during experiments on different subcultures of the same homokaryonover two generations obtained from pseudo-homokaryotic fruiting. Furthermore, controlled crosses between homokaryons were also studied for mating type change The results suggest that both A and B mating type regions in A. aergerity contain three loci, one expressed and the other two silent. Mating type switching is achieved by copy transposition of silent loci into the expression loci.

Correlation between pairing initiation sites, recombination nodules and meiotic recombination in Sordaria macrospora
Article Abstract:
A study indicates the presence of a correlation between recombination nodules, chiasmata, meiotic recombination and sites where pairing begins in the Ascomycete Sordaria macrospora. The study examined the correlation between synaptonemal complex (SC) initiation sites and reciprocal meiotic changes among bivalents in the Ascomycete. The patterns of synapsis of meiotic prophase I in mutant and wild types were examined with the help of serial section reconstruction microscopy.

Cytoplasmic incompatibility and mating preference in Colombian Drosophila pseudoobscura
Article Abstract:
Variations in the amount of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplotypes of Drosophila pseudoobscura collected in different parts of the world have been reported. Some researchers suggest that mating preference and cytoplasmic incompatibility were responsible for such large frequency changes of mtDNA haplotypes. However, two experiments conducted failed to support both hypotheses.
