Mendelian segregation for two-factor apomixis in Erigeron annuus (Asteraceae)
Article Abstract:
The inheritance of asexual seed development (apomixis) in Erigeron annuus (Asteraceae) is analyzed in a triploid population, which has resulted from a cross between an apomictic tetraploid pollen parent and a sexual diploid seed parent. The cosegregation of the traits are due to tight linkage and the data have shown that autonomous development in Erigeron annuus is regulated by a single fertilization factor, which has initiated the development of both the embryo and the endosperm in the absence of fertilization.

Ecology and genetics of ephemeral plant populations: Eichhornia paniculata (Pontederiaceae) in northeast Brazil
Article Abstract:
There is significant temporal variation in the size of populations of Eichhornia paniculata (Pontederiaceae), an annual tristylous aquatic plant that grows in the seasonally arid caatinga region of northeast Brazil. It was not possible to identify a link between population size and hererozygosity in this plant, a factor which probably results from ecological factors linked with population size. It was established that tristylous populations are more likely to survive than those that are missing style morphs.

Impact of clonal growth on effective population size in Hymenoxys herbacea (Asteraceae)
Article Abstract:
The effective size for two populations of the clonal self-incompatible plant, Hymenoxys herbacea, was estimated using a stage-structured demographic model for organism with asexual and sexual recruitment and then examined the impact of reproductive strategy using an elasticity analysis. The result highlights the importance of considering asexual modes of reproduction while examining the role of genetic stochasticity in population.
