Metabolic depression in animals: Physiological perspectives and biochemical generalizations
Article Abstract:
Metabolic depression has been recorded in most major animal phyla in response to environmental stresses such as temperature, food deprivation and desiccation. The extent of cryptobiotic and hypobiotic metabolic depression in animals has been examined to determine general patterns. Biochemical changes that occur with metabolic depression have also been examined. Animals that seem to spontaneously depress metabolism demonstrate biochemical generalities in terms of one or all of pH changes. Artemia spp. cysts that are depressed by anoxia appear to complete metabolic depression at normal hydration.

Beyond the '3/4-power law': Variation in the intra- and interspecific scaling of metabolic rate in animals
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to review that '3/4-power scaling law' of metabolic rate is not universal, either within or among animal species. Significant variation in the scaling of metabolic rate with body mass is described for animals, unicells and plants.
