Phylogenetic analysis of culturable dimethyl sulfide-producing bacteria from a Spartina-dominated salt marsh and estuarine water
Article Abstract:
Most bacteria in salt marshes and estuaries can produce dimethyl sulfide from dimethylsulfoniopropionate. Most belong to the alpha and gamma subclasses of Proteobacteria.

Evidence for intracellular and extracellular dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) lyases and DMSP uptake sites in two species of marine bacteria
Article Abstract:
A model of dimethylsulfide (DMS) production taking into account dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP)-binding proteins and intracellular DMSP lyases (DL) in Pseudomonas doudoroffii and extracellular DL in Alcaligenes sp. strain M3A is presented. DMSP is an osmoprotectant in marine phytoplanktons and is an important source of carbon and energy for marine bacteria.

Metabolism of acrylate to beta-hydroxypropionate and its role in dimethylsulfoniopropionate lyase induction by a salt marsh sediment bacterium, Alcaligenes faecalis M3A
Article Abstract:
Research conducted on the dimethylsulfoniopropionate-acrylate metabolism and lyase induction in salt marsh bacteria Alcaligenes faecalis M3A is analyzed. Results demonstrate the role of beta-hydroxypropionate in the process.
