Methicillin (oxacillin)-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from major food animals and their potential transmission to humans
Article Abstract:
Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) patterns were generated by arbitrarily primed PCR to determine molecular epidemiological relatedness of 15 animal methicillin (oxacillin)-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates to isolates from humans. Results suggest that the genomes of six animal MRSA isolates were very closely related to those of some human MRSA isolates and were a possible source of human infections caused by consuming contaminated food products made from these animals.

Molecular diversity and characterization of tetracycline-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates from a poultry processing plant
Article Abstract:
The study of the genotypic diversity of Staphylococcus aureus isolates originating from a South African poultry processing plant (PPP) with the presence of tetracycline (TC) resistance and other resistance phenotypes is investigated. It is concluded that the tet(K) gene is transferable by filter mating to Staphyococcus aureus recipient 80CR5 and is located on a pT181-like plasmid.

Characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolates from buffalo, bovine, ovine and caprine milk samples collected in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil
Article Abstract:
The characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolates from buffalo, bovine, ovine and caprine milk samples collected in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil was studied. Major clone A in different herds was detected among all species and in infection, while colonization samples showed its geographical spread among Rio de Janeiro state.
