Migration routes of sooty shearwaters in the Pacific Ocean
Article Abstract:
The Sooty Shearwater (Puffinus griseus) is an abundant seabird of the Pacific Ocean and is a transequatorial migrant. The migration of Sooty Shearwaters has been studied to determine differences in flight direction between seasons and locations. It is concluded that the migration routes are more complex than previously thought and may differ depending on population, environmental factors and breeding status. It is suspected that there is a figure-eight route used mainly by nonbreeders and, direct routes used mainly by breeders.

Changes in stable carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios in sooty and short-tailed shearwaters during their northward migration
Article Abstract:
The carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios of the seabird species sooty and short-tailed shearwaters were studied for changes during the birds' migration from the Southern Hemisphere to the North Pacific. The sampling was conducted from April to June in 1986, 1989 and 1990. The isotope ratios were found to vary according to certain oceanographic factors. Results show that the seabirds' trophic relationships may be explained via their prey's seasonal and areal variations.

Plasma corticosterone in bar-tailed godwits at a major stop-over site during spring migration
Article Abstract:
Plasma corticosterone is hypothesized to have an inverse correspondence with the body mass of bar-tailed godwit adults during the avian species' stop-over for the spring season. The levels of plasma corticosterone are highest at arrival and decrease as mass is acquired in the Limosa lapponica species. Locally summering juveniles, which do not prepare for nor go through migration, were likewise studied for comparative purposes.
