Patterns of activity, flocking, and habitat use in parrots of the Peruvian Amazon
Article Abstract:
Flight activity, flocking and habitat use in a broad variety of parrots in an Amazonian lowland forest in Peru were investigated. Parrots were observed to be most active just before sunrise with another burst of activity after a midday rest. An exception is the Brotogeris spp. which were most active during the early afternoon. There were drastic increases in flock size in the evening which indicate the absence of communal and multispecies roosting. The large- and mid-sized species were mostly found in high-ground forests while the smaller species preferred the transitional forests.

Recent geographic trends in Neotropical avian research
Article Abstract:
The geographic distribution of bird research in the Neotropics from 1979-1995 is very uneven. Land and human population characteristics which are thought to be a threat to the conservation of bird populations are not correlated with Neotropical ornithological research efforts. Three groups of countries with regards to biodiversity and conservation can be identified. The worst group has lower numbers of bird species while having high population density. Research should be focused on this particular group of countries.
