Phylogenetic diversity, abundance, and axial distribution of bacteria in the intestinal tract of two soil-feeding termites (Cubitermes spp.)
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the physicochemical environment supports the abundance, distribution, and diversity of the microbial communities in the gut compartments of the two termite species. Data show that the proctodeal segment of Cubitermes orthognathus contains mostly gram-positive bacteria, while in the posterior gut segments they are decreased. C. orthognathus gut regions contain gram-positive bacterial clusters and Planctomycetales members.

Axial dynamics, stability, and interspecies similarity of bacterial community structure in the highly compartmentalized gut of soil-feeding termites (Cubitermes spp.)
Article Abstract:
Results reveal that all hindgut sections in Cubitermes orthognathus harbor different bacterial communities belonging to soil, gut, and nest material, whereas the homologous gut segments of cubitermes species exhibit a similar, stable gut-specific microbial communities as shown by terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism of bacteial 16S ribosomal RNA genes.

Axial differences in community structure of Crenarchaeota and Euryarchaeota in the highly compartmentalized gut of the soil-feeding termite Cubitermes orthognathus
Article Abstract:
The first comprehensive analysis of the microbial community inside the gut of the termite Cubitermes orthognathus is described based on clonal analysis and terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism fingerprinting. This is also the first report of Crenarchaeota occurring in an arthropod intestinal tract.
