Smads and early developmental signaling by the TGF-beta superfamily
Article Abstract:
The transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) superfamily of peptide growth factors control a range of functions of the cell, among them proliferation and apoptosis. Discovery and characterization of the Smad family of gene products has been important in progress in knowing how TFG-beta superfamily signals are transduced within the cell. A molecular framework is now known.

Cleavage of the death domain kinase RIP by Caspase-8 prompts TNF-induced apoptosis
Article Abstract:
The article explores molecular principles that regulate life and death balance. A potential mechanism to convert cells from life to death in death receptor-mediated apoptosis is described.
