Precocious maturation in coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch): estimation of additive genetic variance
Article Abstract:
Additive genetic variance appears to influence precocious maturation in coho salmon. Egg size was significantly correlated with precocious maturation of males, along with fish size at the time of release from hatcheries. The sire component may have been underestimated due to the absence of precocious males in the sires used. Even after correcting variance for egg size, a significant discrepancy between the sire and dam components existed. This implied the presence of additional nonadditive genetic variance. The apparent upper limit on additive genetic determination was estimated as between 5% to 13%.

Expressivity of the Manx gene in cats
Article Abstract:
The presentation of new genetic data indicates that the assortment data for the mutant Manx Gene, M, does not have a selective advantage at some stage of gametogenesis. The exceptional and consistent feature of the Manx syndrome is the variable expression of Manx taillessness in the posterior skeleton, neural organization and growth of soft tissues. The variable expression is partially genetic in origin, and its heritability is estimated in the region of h squared equal to 0.40 plus or minus 0.11.

Environmental dependence of inbreeding depression in cultured Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch): Aggressiveness, dominance and intraspecific competition
Article Abstract:
The effects of inbreeding on behavioral traits related to territorial dominance in a domesticated Coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch population are evaluated. The results suggested that inbreeding significantly reduced the growth and viability of juvenile fish under different environmental conditions.
