Reconstitution of the myxothiazol biosynthetic gene cluster by Red/ET recombination and heterologous expression in Myxococcus xanthus
Article Abstract:
A combination of Red/ET recombineering and classical cloning procedures are used for the reconstitution of the whole myxothiazol biosynthetic gene cluster from two cosmids. The successful integration and expression of myxothiozol biosynthesis genes in Myxococcus xanthus has resulted in the production of myxothiazol in yields comparable to the natural producer strain.

Characteristics and living patterns of marine myxobacterial isolates
Article Abstract:
The growth, morphology, and life cycle of two marine myxobacterial isolates were studied. Results suggest that the halotolerant forms are the result of degenerative adaptation of soil myxobacteria to the marine environment, while the halophilic myxobacteria form a different evolutionary group that is indigenous to the ocean.
