Shugoshin enables tension-generating attachment of kinetochores by loading Aurora to centromeres
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that fission yeast shugoshin Sgo2 is dispensable for protecting cohesion and plays an important role in loading the Aurora kinase complex to centromeres based on the following evidence. The results reveal that in addition to the protective function, shugoshin plays a crucial role in promoting centromeric localization of the Aurora kinase complex and thereby enabling tension-generating attachment of kinetochores.

The enhancement of pericentromeric cohesion association by conserved kinetochore components promotes high-fidelity chromosome segregation and is sensitive to microtubule-based tension
Article Abstract:
A new technique is developed and employed to analyze the effect of the enhancement of arm and pericentromeric cohesion in various kinetochore components on high-fidelity chromosome segregation. The analysis reveals that such cohesion is very essential for high-fidelity segregation and is also really sensitive to the kinetochore-microtubule attachments, which makes it very helpful in promoting chromosome biorientation in higher eukaryotes.

Enhancing togetherness: Kinetochores and cohesion
Article Abstract:
The formation of kinetochore, a complex multiprotein structure that attaches chromosomes to microtubules and the chromosome cohesion are two main processes involved in the equal distribution of the genetic information within an organism. The processes mentioned are supposed to enhance togetherness among cells, as pericentric cohesion is more important and essential for the segregation of the chromosomes than the arm cohesion.
