Structural basis for the histone chaperone activity of Asf1
Article Abstract:
The crystal structure of anti-silencing function 1 (Asf1) bound to histones H3/H4 is determined, which reveals how a histone chaperone binds histones and how the structures of H3 and H4 differ outside of the histone octamer. The Asf1-H3/H4 structure has indicated a 'strand-capture' mechanism whereby the H4 tail acts as a lever to facilitate chromatin disassembly/assembly that might be used by histone chaperones.

Sus1, a functional component of the SAGA histone acetylase complex and the nuclear pore-associated mRNA export machinery
Article Abstract:
The identification of a protein, Sus1, that functions in both transcription and mRNA export is reported. Sus1 is a nuclear protein with a concentration at the nuclear pores. DNA macroarray analysis reveals that Sus1 is required for transcription regulation and chromatin immunoprecipitation shows that Sus1 is associated with the promoter of a SAGA-dependent gene during transcription activation.

The Spanish connection: Transcription and mRNA processing get even closer
Article Abstract:
Biochemical or genetic tests revealed that the synthesis of mRNA by RNA polymerase II appears coupled to numerous RNA-processing events, based on physical or functional connections. At a meeting in Spain in November 2004, new findings were presented that begin to illuminate the mechanisms underlying the connections between mRNA processing and specific steps in transcription.
