The Bacillus subtilis L-arabinose (ara) operon nucleotide sequence, genetic organization and expression
Article Abstract:
The 7.1 kb chromosomal fragment containing the araA, araB and araD were analyzed to determine the genetic expression and amino acid sequences of Bacillus subtilis L-arabinose metabolic genes. Analysis of the 7.1 kb chromosomal fragment containing the metabolic genes indicated the presence of other genes that form a nine-cistron transcriptional unit called ara. Furthermore, araA, araB and araD are the first open reading frames of the 11 kb. ara operon which also contains araL, araM, araN, araP, araQ and abfA genes.

The trp RNA-binding attenuation protein (TRAP) regulates the steady-state levels of transcripts of the Bacillus subtilis folate operon
Article Abstract:
The transcriptional organization of the folate operon and the growth-phase-dependent-regulation of encoded messenger RNA (mRNA) was analyzed in Bacillus subtilis. Analysis of Bacillus subtilis genome indicated the role of trp RNA-binding attenuation proteins (TRAP) in modulating the half-life of folate mRNAs. However, growth-phase-dependent changes in operon expression were not affected by TRAP.

Expression of the glycolytic gapA operon in Bacillus subtilis: differential syntheses of proteins encoded by the operon
Article Abstract:
The hexacistronic gapA operon encoded glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is expressed about 100-fold in excess by the second gene over that of the CggR repressor due to an mRNA processing even occurring at the 3' end of the cggR open reading frame. Data suggest that the differential syntheses of the gapA operon proteins is due to the mRNA processing.
