The MLC1f/3f gene is a early marker of somitic muscle differentiation in Xenopus laevis embryo
Article Abstract:
The myosin light chain (MLC) 1f and MLC3f proteins produced by Xenopus laevis are specific markers for the differentiation of embryonic skeletal muscles. The proteins are produced after gastrulation and collect in the somitic muscles but not in the cardiac muscles. The gene encoding these proteins can be activated in animal cells by activin, bFGF and myogenic factors. The MLC1f and MLC3f proteins have similar amino acid sequences and are mammalian and avian homologues.

Chicken perinatal troponin Ts are generated by a combination of novel and phylogenetically conserved alternative splicing pathways
Article Abstract:
An independent 5'-alternative mechanism is employed by chicken and other avian species to form perinatal troponin T that are biophysically and functionally similar to that of the mammalian homologs. The avian and mammalian skeletal muscles during perinatal development express a set of TnT isoforms having higher M(sub R)s and increased acidic pIs than their adult analogs.
