The ammonia monooxygenase structural gene amoA as a functional marker: molecular fine-scale analysis of natural ammonia-oxidizing populations
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine the potential of ammonia monooxygenase for molecular detection and fine-scale characterization of indigenous ammonia-oxidizing populations. Cells were pelletted and resuspended in the purification of genomic DnA from pure and enrichment cultures. Results indicated that the autotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria did not represent a monophyletic clade and were members of phylogenetically different groups. The topology of the amoA-pmoA tree agreed with the topology of the 16S rDNA ree.

Ammonia-oxidizing [beta]-proteobacteria from the oxygen minimum zone off Northern Chile
Article Abstract:
The analysis describes the composition of the ammonia-oxidizing [beta]-proteobacteria subclass in within the oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) subtoxic waters of the eastern South Pacific off northern Chile. The results confirm the presence of such bacteria in oxic, as well as suboxic waters, though a community shift takes place t the functional level.

Differences between bacterial communities in the gut of a soil-feeding termite (Cubiterms niokoloensis) and its mounds
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to characterize the specificity of bacterial communities within wounds with respect to the digestive and soil origins of the mound. Findings confirmed that soil feeding termite mould represents a specific bacterical habital in the tropns.
