Trypanosome invasion of mammalian cells requires activation of the TGFbeta signalling pathway
Article Abstract:
Trypanosoma cruzi clings to epithelial cells without signaling transforming growth factor beta (TGF beta) receptor I or II and the adherent parasites cannot enter and replicate inside the mutant cells as they can do in parent cell. Intrusion of the mutants is recovered by transfection with the TGF beta receptor genes, as are biological responses to TGF beta. The same kind of rescue of both TGF beta antiproliferative response and T. cruzi intrusion was shown in a hybrid of TGF beta-resistant bladder and colon carcinoma cells.

The molecular biography of the cell
Article Abstract:
The development of an adult organism from a single fertilized egg, a stage from inner cell mass to fully differentiated structure is discussed. The challenge of developmental biology lies in defining the influences and factors that contribute to the final destination are explored.
