Slugging it out: Fine tuning the p53-PUMA death connection
Article Abstract:
The transcription factor SLUG is induced by p53 protects hamatopoietic progenitor cells from apoptosis triggered by DNA damage. The SLUG exerts the protective role by repressing puma, a proapoptotic target of p53 and is also key coordinator of apoptosis mediated by both nuclear and cytoplasmic functions of p53.

The haploinsufficient tumor suppressor p18 upregulates p53 via interactions with ATM/ATR
Article Abstract:
The mouse p18 loss-of-function phenotype and a role for p18 in the DNA damage response are described. Results show that p18 is a haploinsufficient tumor suppressor and a key factor for ATM/ATR-mediated p53 activation.
