A diffusion theory model of adoption and substitution for successive generations of high-technology products
Article Abstract:
Ways in which successive generations of products affect one another in terms of sales are discussed. As one generation of a product becomes technologically less desirable, a technologically superior successor takes its place. Sales of the more recent product do not necessarily outpace the older product, however. Diffusion of the newer product occurs in the marketplace at the same time the older product still does well. Soon, however, a substitution effect will take place, with the newer product supplanting the older one.

A predictive model of sequential iteration in engineering design
Article Abstract:
The authors present a sequential iteration model as a means of minimizing product development time for coupled design tasks. Limitations and extensions of the model are also discussed.
