Bill would allow foreign banks in Del
Article Abstract:
Timothy McTaggart, banking commissioner for Delaware, intends to sponsor a bill in the General Assembly that would allow foreign banks to operate in the state. The proposed bill, which will be introduced in 1999, would permit operations of a wholesale branch and the naming of the state as the US headquarters for branching and operations nationwide. Aside from the creation of more jobs, McTaggart's proposal would increase the bank franchise tax set by the state. It would also lend more prestige for the state internationally. David Bakerian, executive director of the Delaware Bankers Association, said the state is seeking to attract new enterprises to the state.

Home sales strong, despite a dip
Article Abstract:
US home sales stayed 9% higher compared to last year, despite a slight drop in sales in September 1998 for the second consecutive month. Sales of existing homes in the South and Midwest dropped, while sales in the Northeast neither increased nor drop. Meanwhile, home sales in the West increased. The home sales figures were released by the National Association of Realtors, which has been monitoring home sales for three decades. Sales in northern Delaware remains strong, despite a drop over the last two months due to diminishing consumer confidence and concerns over the stock market and crisis in foreign countries.
