Bricoleurs and boundary riders: managing basic research and innovation knowledge networks
Article Abstract:
Research institutions have long sought to improve linkages between publicly funded research activities and industry to advance economic and other national objectives. Many research groups will increasingly rely upon such linkages in the years ahead to come up with innovative products and services that meet rapidly changing demands. A typology of academe-industry alliances gleaned from case studies of companies and commercial-research agency consortia in China and Australia is presented. The typology helps shed light on different collaborative R&D management strategies.
